Plastic Crap is an Australian business that sends a monthly box of 3D-printed fidgets, toys and surprises to kids aged 7 to 16. We started in 2026. Box 001 dispatches from 6 October 2026.

The idea

Small plastic things are good. A fidget that clicks exactly right, a dragon whose tail ripples, a ghost that glows when the light goes off — these are not important objects, and that's the point. They're delightfully pointless and actually useful, usually at the same time.

What's harder is finding them. Australian makers are printing genuinely great things, but you have to know what to look for, and a kid doesn't get the fun of not knowing what's coming. So we do the looking, and post a mix.

How a box gets made

Each month's pieces are picked from what makers are printing and sharing. We choose a mix that does different things — something that twists, something that clicks, something that just sits on a desk and looks good — and try to make sure at least one piece in every box is bigger and more of an event than the rest.

Each piece is printed in small batches, one layer at a time. Printing is slow and every piece is checked before it's packed, which is why the boxes are limited and why a mix is never repeated exactly.

Every box also includes a card for grown-ups explaining what's inside, and a Plastic Crap NFC wordmark keychain.

Where the designs come from

The pieces come from the wider 3D-printing design community — the makers publishing models for other people to print. We choose from what's being shared, and we print in small batches rather than mass-producing.

What we're careful about

Age. The box is built for 7 to 16. It contains small parts and is not suitable for children under 3, and we say so on every box and every page.
Materials. We print in PLA, a low-toxicity plastic made from plant starch. We tell you what it can't do as well as what it can — it isn't food safe, and it warps above about 50°C. The FAQ has the detail.
Honesty about timing. We publish dispatch dates, not delivery promises, because once a box is with Australia Post the timing isn't ours to promise.
Honesty about pictures. Box and product images on this site are illustrations. Each month's mix is different and we'd rather show you the idea than fake a photo of a box that doesn't exist yet.
No lock-in. There's no minimum term. Cancel whenever, including during the first three months.

About the name

It's a joke about what we sell. "Plastic crap" is affectionately what small plastic things are, and naming the business after the thing people might otherwise say about it seemed more fun than pretending otherwise.

Worth saying plainly, because the phrase gets used elsewhere: the same words are sometimes used online as a general criticism of low-value 3D printing. That usage isn't connected to this company. Plastic Crap is a registered Australian business selling a specific thing — a monthly 3D-printed subscription box, posted within Australia.
